Stress, the hidden cause of most of the diseases
Stress, the hidden cause of most of the diseases
Stress and many of the most diseases are connected. We all know it deep inside but can someone actually show some scientific evidence for this? Let me try to unfold this topic and the revolutionary evidence...but let’s start at the beginning first...
I think no matter of age, circumstances, financial level, you probably have encountered stress in some form or another. Relationships, relatives, workplace, traffic, travel, economics, financial issues.
Cortisol, a.k.a. the stress hormone is responsible for many things. It has a circadian rhythm, which means that your cortisol levels fluctuate during the day. It should be higher when you wake up and low when you go to sleep. The problem is that we are exposed to so many things (mental, emotional, and physical) nowadays that our stress levels can be constantly high.
You are probably asking me, why is this so important? I didn’t really believe in all this until I started struggling with acne. That time, I went deeper and deeper into hormonal issues. Getting acne when you are stressed out? Yes, of course, that’s one of the symptoms of high cortisol.
Suddenly, right in the middle of my profound research, the picture came together. We learned about Cushing's at the university. It’s one of the most debilitating illnesses. It ruins life quality in a measure that’s hard to imagine. It changes body structure, creates numerous health issues.
Cushing’s can be a disease and a syndrome, the diseases is due to some permanent physical changes in the body, like a cortisol producing tumor, or a stroke in a certain area in the brain. On the other hand, Cushing’s syndrome can be more common than you might think. It mainly due to corticosteroid usage. Corticosteroid anti-inflammatory drugs are infamous for their ability to reduce inflammation, they are actually the strongest, as well as their ability to create the symptoms of Cushing’s disease.
Here’s a picture:
Basically, if you have Cushing’s you can suffer from all the modern diseases at the same time:
High blood pressure
High blood sugar
Reduced immunity
Osteoporosis
Muscle weakness
Hormonal imbalances
Obesity
Cardiac hypertrophy
We learned at the university that corticosteroid drugs are modeled from cortisol itself. Their efficiency is actually compared to cortisol. It sounds logical that if these drugs can end up in Cushing’s syndrome, cortisol can cause similar things, just maybe, not so aggressively like the drugs.
Actually, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and all the above-mentioned symptoms can all be linked to STRESS.
But how can we fight stress? Isn’t this a mental issue? Are there any more techniques beyond breathing and meditation, which can actually solve this problem?
Good news, yes, they are. And I will talk about them in the future. Subscribe to my newsletter to get the wisdom updates. ;)
Have a nice day! :)
