The best brain foods and focus-boosting techniques part1
Recently, I've been super busy and I had to focus on my brain power as much as possible. I'm sharing my experience here, I hope it will benefit you greatly, like it has benefited me.
Oxygen
This might sound like a no-brainer but very often, you can be out of focus because you are sitting inside all the time. Since I've been walking and biking a LOT, I've noticed that my energy levels changed, as well as my mental performance. Your whole body needs oxygen. Desperately. Don't miss out on it.
Spend at least 30-60 minutes or more outside, exercising, or just walking and I guarantee you'll see some positive changes.
Sleep
I'll write my next post about this because I've made some major changes in my sleeping routine, which makes me feel way more energetic and focused daily. Make sure to go to bed in time, around 10 pm, and sleep at least 6-8 hours daily.
Carbohydrates - fruit
I used to be a high carb vegan, but in the past 2 days, I started eating more high-fat foods as well as processed fats because, hey, I'm hungry all the time and eat whatever I find. At the moment, I'm vegetarian and often eat eggs for breakfast. However, they are great for calming my tummy for a few hours, I feel very sluggish if I don't consume any carbs.
Since I've started consuming fresh fruit almost every day, I feel much better. My mind works significantly better and I have more energy as well. Bottom line, don't forget fresh fruits. Eat at least 1-2 servings a day or more.
Blueberries
Blueberries are known as one of the best brain foods. They are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. I love to make banana-blueberry smoothies often and my brain works very smoothly after.
Reishi smoothies
One of the biggest negative factors, which can reduce mental clarity is actually stress. Every time I'm stressed out, I make bad decisions, I can't think clearly, I can't even focus on my goals, just survival. Reishi is an adaptogen, which can reduce your cortisol levels a.k.a your stress hormone levels. Cortisol causes many other issues like weight gain, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, etc
I'll include my reishi smoothie recipe at the end of this post.
Essential oils
These work better than coffee...seriously. I LOVE my diffuser, I use it on a daily basis. It's asbolutely amazing, improves my mood, my mental clarity, my productivity. I love peppermint, frankincense, lavender, and rosemary. all of these offer great benefits for your brain.
Reishi smoothie:
500 ml water
3-5 ripe bananas
2 tbsp full fat coconut milk
2 tbsp yogurt (preferably plant-based)
1 tbsp reishi powder
pinch of salt (I do Lo-Salt)
vanilla extract
Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Enjoy!
